Eight Characters We Can Expect in the 'Justice League' movie

When Henry Cavil, Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot stepped out on the stage of Hall H at Comic Con this weekend, their wordless appearance signaled more than a brief cameo by the stars of the upcoming ‘Superman vs. Batman: Dawn of Justice’.  Warner Brothers’ studio is banking a lot on the success of the upcoming film, which they’ve already announced will provide a lead in to a subsequent ‘Justice League’ movie.  But while the formula of establishing a shared cinematic universe is one clearly inspired by the recent success of the Marvel Studios films, 'Justice League' could provide an opportunity for Warner Brothers’ parent company, Time Warner, to draw on the full range of their intellectual property holdings.  This is one universe that could truly have no limits, so here are The Over Picture's predictions for what characters to expect when ‘Justice League’ eventually hits screens.

1. Shazam

With the recent announcement of the Rock’s casting as the mystical hero, there’s a big likelihood we’ll be seeing the big red cheese show up in more than just a solo film.  The inclusion of this mystically powered character could be just the ingredient the ‘Justice League’ needs to go from ‘super’ to ‘duper’.

Odds: 2 to 1. They may not be able to call him Captain Marvel anymore, but that won’t stop Warner Brothers from making this character a big part of their shared universe.

2.Ghost Fox Killer

It’s no longer a question of if China will overtake the US as the world’s largest film going economy, but when.  Studios have been finding ways to court the increasingly lucrative Chinese audience for years now, with Chinese mega star’s Fan Bingbing and Li Bingbing having featured this summer in ‘X Men: Days of Future Past’ and ‘Transformers 4’, respectively.  So don’t be surprised if the Justice League ends up including at least one character of Chinese origin.  If this is the case, there’s a good chance it could be a member of ‘Big hero Ten’, a team of Chinese super heroes introduced in 2006.  Ghost Face Killer is an emissary of the Ghost Fox society, with the ability to slay men with a touch of her hand and transfer their souls into the energy of her colony.  Inclusion in the cinematic Justice League could help propel this obscure character into broader popularity, and lend the film a truly international feel.

Odds: 5 to 1.  The chance to appeal to Chinese movie goers could be too good for ‘Justice League’ to pass up.

3. The Joker
Rumor has it that a certain clown prince of crime is going to be making a surprise appearance in ‘Dawn of Justice’.  But no casting director would want to have to recast this iconic character after Heath Ledger’s Oscar winning performance.  So it’s going to be called a stroke of genius when Warner Brothers reaches into their vaults and resurrects the image of another dead actor.  Can we expect Mr. Romero’s gleeful take on the Joker to challenge Batfleck in Summer 16?

Odds: 1 to 1.  Biff, bang, comics aren't for kids anymore!

4. Jonah Hex

Though the 2010 Josh Brolin vehicle was a critical and commercial disaster, that doesn't mean that the wild west corner of the DC universe is going to remain quiet forever.  Lucky for ‘Justice League’, Time Warner owns the distribution rights to the 1994 proto western/experimental head film ‘How the West Was Fun’.  With Elizabeth Olsen already a part of Marvel’s Avengers, look for DC to try to cash in on their own share of the Olsen market.  But will the Olsen twins come out of acting retirement?  Will there be a surprise appearance by costar Martin Mull?  Will Elizabeth Olsen return for a cameo as ‘Girl in Car?’  Also, don’t be surprised if cursed gunslinger, Jonah Hex, shows up in the background or something.
Odds: 2 to 1. It doesn't take two to know that this would make for one very full house.

 5.       The Incredible Mr. Limpet

With the rumor of Jason Momoa showing up for a cameo as Aquaman in ‘Batman vs. Superman’, it’s safe to assume the King of Atlantis is going to be featured prominently in ‘Justice League’.  The question is, will the film include other sea based super heroes?  You don’t need sonar to bet that they will, and our prediction is that this will lead to a cameo by none other than the titular character of the 1964 comedy classic.  With a studio system increasingly reliant on resurrecting old properties as new franchises, ‘Justice League’ could be just the springboard Warner Brothers needs to bring this forgotten character to today’s audiences.  You can expect the cel animated Titlefish to be given a slick CGI makeover, meaning that the only question now is what young actor will end up being ‘Justice League’s catch of the day.

Odds: 1 to 1. This is one fish story you can believe.

 6. The Homeboys in Outer Space

While Warner Brothers is just beginning to set their schedule for the earthbound heroics of ‘Justice League’, main competitor Marvel has already launched into the cosmos with ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.  We can be sure that Time Warner is going to be looking deep into their own holdings to find the perfect vehicle to introduce the interstellar aspects of the DC universe.  So don’t be surprised when director Zack Snyder and co give us a gritty, Nolanesque reboot of the little known WB sitcom.  This one two punch will inject ‘Justice League’ with some much needed comic relief and a welcome dose of diversity.  But will stars Darryl M. Bell and Flex Alexander reprise their roles?  Or will a new acting duo be tapped to bring these comic cosmonauts to the big screen.

Odds: 1 to 1.  Set a course for space!

6. Michigan J Frog

Superman has Lex Luthor.  Batman has The Joker.  But Wonder Woman never really earned her own famous nemesis, and the likes of Cheetah and Ares just aren’t going to cut it.  Lucky for Warner Brothers, they've got a treasure trove of characters in the Looney Tunes catalog, and none would serve for a better nemesis to the first daughter of Themyscira than the top hat wearing Michigan J.  And while we can expect the bulk of ‘Justice League’ to be made of up things crashing into other things, the highlight of the movie will be Princess Diana’s quest to prove to her teammates that her pet frog breaks out into ‘Hello Ma Baby’ when no one else is looking.

Odds: 1 to 1.  You won’t need a pitch by wire to know what song movie goers will be humming on their way out of this super powered sequel.

7. True Blood

As Warner Brothers builds their fictional universe, they would be wise to take advantage of the full range of intellectual property at their disposal.  This includes the HBO network, and the mega popular series ‘True Blood’.  True Blood (Anna Paquin) is a vampire who fights were wolves in Sunnydale, Louisiana, with her sidekick, Bill (Stellan Skarsgard).  But could the formation of the Justice League bring the chosen one out of the swamp and into Metropolis?  If Warner Brothers is smart, the answer could be “Anlock.”*

Odds: 1 to 1.  Beam me up Scottie.’

*Anlock is vampire for “yes”.

8. Superman

This beloved comic book characters is known mostly for his altruism and commitment to human life.  Though he has been rarely seen onscreen since the 1980s, his heroism and honesty would provide a great foil for the violent, super powered yutz we all remember from ‘Man of Steel’.

Odds: 10 to 1. Don’t wait until after the credits for a cameo from this unbankable humanitarian.
